Re-education and rehabilitation research

Movement science in the service of care

MYA is a research company specializing in re-education and rehabilitation. We conduct our own research in collaboration with clinical research centers, and develop digital tools for health professionals and patients.

The gap

Re-education and rehabilitation: a huge need, still fragile follow-up

Re-education and rehabilitation concern everyone: after an injury, surgery, a musculoskeletal disorder, with age or a chronic disease. Movement is a central lever, and a non-drug therapy in its own right. Between what research establishes and what practice manages to sustain over time, the gap remains wide.

2.4 billion

people worldwide live with a health condition that may benefit from rehabilitation (2019 data).

WHO, Rehabilitation fact sheet, April 2024; A. Cieza et al., The Lancet, vol. 396, 2020

12.9 million

people saw a private-practice physical therapist in France in 2025, 18.7% of the population.

French National Health Insurance (Assurance Maladie), proposals for 2027, July 2026, p. 208

41%

of surveyed French GPs report prescribing adapted physical activity to their patients with long-term conditions; 88% had heard of it (2021).

Our fields

Three fields, one standard

01

Re-education and rehabilitation

Two complementary approaches at the heart of our work: restoring a function (mobility, strength, balance) after an injury, surgery or illness, then supporting the return to autonomy and activity.

Functional re-education and rehabilitation
02

Prevention and access to care

Sedentary lifestyles, nutrition, ageing, unequal access to care from one area to another: collective challenges that call for fact-based answers.

Digital health

We develop digital tools for health professionals and patients, held to the same standard as our research.

Our principles

What guides all of our work

Evidence-based

We start from what science establishes, and we respect its limits.

Built with health professionals

Our work draws on their field experience and their standards.

Protected data

A firm commitment to confidentiality and security.

At the heart of our work

Adherence, the link research must shed light on

A treatment only works if it is followed. For physical activity, the link is even more direct: exercise only exists if it is practiced. Understanding why programs stop, and what helps people keep going, is one of our core research questions.

Therapeutic adherence: definition and levers

12%only of studies on adherence to rehabilitation exercise (musculoskeletal pain) use the same definition of adherence. Measuring it remains a research challenge.Source: D. L. Bailey et al., systematic review of 86 studies, British Journal of Sports Medicine 2020;54:326-331.
Our story

An idea born during a rehabilitation

During his own rehabilitation, Victor, our founder, discovered adapted physical activity. He realized that many patients have nothing comparable once care ends, and turned it into a research question.

Frequently asked questions

What do re-education and rehabilitation cover?

They are two complementary approaches, often carried out together. Re-education restores a function: mobility, strength, balance, exercise capacity, after an injury, surgery, a musculoskeletal disorder or an illness. Rehabilitation supports the person toward autonomy and a return to their activities. Dosed, progressive movement is at the heart of both. See our article on functional re-education and rehabilitation.

What is a non-drug therapy?

It is a scientifically validated intervention that does not rely on medication: adapted physical activity, patient education, nutritional or psychological care. In France, adapted physical activity is one of the best documented, and a physician can prescribe it under France's exercise on prescription scheme, extended by law no. 2022-296 of March 2, 2022.

What is therapeutic adherence?

Adherence, meaning how well patients follow their treatment or program over time, describes the gap between what is prescribed and what is actually done. It is one of the main determinants of rehabilitation outcomes. We cover it in a reference article.

What is a level of evidence?

It measures how much confidence can be placed in the studies behind a recommendation. In France, the HAS distinguishes grades A (established evidence), B (scientific presumption), C (low level of evidence) and expert agreement. See our guide to levels of evidence in health.

What is adapted physical activity?

It is supervised physical activity tailored to the abilities, risks and needs of a person with a chronic disease or loss of autonomy. It is delivered by trained professionals. See our guide to adapted physical activity.

What is exercise on prescription?

It is the framework that allows a physician to prescribe adapted physical activity to a patient in France, created in 2016 and extended by law no. 2022-296 of March 2, 2022 to new prescribers and new patient groups. Our article on exercise on prescription explains how it works.
